Your gym workout does need to be shaken up from time to time to avoid plateaus. But sometimes you just get bored doing the same exercises over and over again. With so much innovation on the fitness landscape, you can now find new ways to challenge yourself and keep your progress on-track. Your core and ab workouts are a perfect example of that.

If you are ready to kick that basic military push-up aside in favor of some moves to set your core on-fire, try these five exercises on for size. Once you master them, start incorporating some of the advanced moves in the bonus video at the end. You are guaranteed to love working your core all over again!

Spiderman Push-Ups

The spiderman push-up combines a standard push-up with a side oblique crunch. Expect a challenge as it works your chest, shoulders, triceps, biceps, legs, glutes, core, and your cardiovascular system.

Scorpion Push-Ups

The scorpion is an advanced full-body move that works your chest, arms, shoulders, core, obliques, and glutes while challenging your overall balance and stability.

T Push-Ups

T push-ups require a strong core and great stability. The rotation tests overall shoulder strength and balance. You may modify the exercise using no weights and/or by dropping to your knees until you get stronger.

X Push-Up

The X push-up is performed the way you would do a standard push-up, however, your hands and feet are positioned into a wide stance. You may progress to this full extension by starting with wider foot stance and gradually increasing the distance between your hands. A strong shoulder complex is needed here!

Dive Bomber Push-Ups

The dive bomber uses a fluid motion that transitions you from a yoga-inspired downward facing dog to a cobra pose/upward-facing dog pose. This one will take some practice, but trust that all of your major muscle groups will be engaged.
